At 26, I stepped into big shoes when I joined Special Olympics. It led me to pack my bags — firstly to attend training in Washington DC, then move permanently to Amsterdam, where I started coordinating youth programs across 58 countries. But these weren't just any youth programs—they were for youth with intellectual disabilities! My role was all about leading inclusion and empowering future leaders in this space.
One of my most rewarding projects was organizing a 3-day event in Sweden (while living in Amsterdam) for youth from over 10 European countries. From scratch, we built a badass event: organizing the logistics, leading workshops, booking flights and hotels, and facilitating keynote speakers—all while keeping mind the special needs of our participants. After that event, pretty much everything that followed has felt like a piece of cake!
